Volleyball Australia has today issued an apology to players who experienced distress during their time in the Australian Women’s Indoor Volleyball team between 1997 and 2005.
An independent review by Sport integrity Australia found the athletes experienced:
- an environment of fear;
- unacceptable and punitive training practices;
- inadequate complaints handling procedure;
- lack of coach accountability; and
- limited athlete support.
VA commends the bravery, resilience and patience of players who shared their experiences as part of the Australian Sports Commission’s Restorative Engagement process.
VA is committed to continuing to improve the practices and experience of all athletes within its national team programs.
